Michigan middle schoolers sue for right to wear ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ gear Julia Shapero Thu, April 27, 2023 at 4:46 PM EDT Two Michigan middle schoolers sued their school district on Tuesday for barring gear featuring the slogan “Let’s Go Brandon.” The students, who were ordered by school administrators to remove their “Let’s Go Brandon” gear — which is a derogatory phrase targeted toward President Biden — allege that the Tri County Area Schools violated the First Amendment by discriminating against political expression that is positive toward former President Trump or negative toward Biden. “Criticism of the president is core political speech protected by the First Amendment,” the students’ attorney, Conor Fitzpatrick, said in a statement. “Whether it’s a Biden sticker, ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ sweatshirt, or gay pride T-shirt, schools can’t pick and choose which political beliefs students can express.” The lawsuit notes that students at the school have been permitted to “wear apparel expressing other political and social messages, including but not limited to apparel expressing support for LGBTQ+ rights.” ... www.yahoo.com/news/michigan-middle-schoolers-sue-wear-204643702.html

Good for them! I hope that they win their case (as they should, in a sane world).

I don’t know if it’s a good idea whether it’s a let’s go Brandon or any slur against a president. School is/should be about teaching and instead of tshirts kids should be taught more about goverment, constitution and could have a pro and con debate. It’s seems the art of debating is dying. That’s just my opinion.

If the schools kept a level playing field on the issue, I could maybe agree with you. However, schools are all about promoting Democrat ideology while suppressing anything that's NOT Democrat ideology.

students (MINORS) should not wear t-shirts with political stuff on them. change that from minors to all students. what if a teacher... maintenance worker... lunch lady... coach... bus driver... etc... showed up wearing that shirt?

Just like it allows it for the kids. I'd also support someone wearing a "Trump Sucks" shirt or "Obama was the bestest Prez Ever!" (both obviously and provably false)... because Freedom of Speech exists in this country. I may not agree with someone's speech, but I WILL defend their right to it. That's one of the key differences between "the Left" and "everyone else"... If "the Left" doesn't approve, they want it banned. If "everyone else" doesn't approve, they just tell you that you are full of crap... but will defend your right to be full of crap.

I understand what you are saying, but at school it’s supposed to be a place for learning and kids do not need to be distracted. What the school should do is ban all anti political T-shirts, including anti trump and anti Biden shirts. Schools use to have a dress code.

I remember them fondly (except for the mandatory "no more than two inches above the knee when standing" skirt lengths [exception for Cheerleader uniforms which had built-in shorts under them, worn on Football Fridays]... what can I say, I was a teenage boy)
