McDonald’s customers are starting to balk at higher Big Mac pricesBrian Sozzi · Executive Editor Wed, April 26, 2023 at 9:44 AM EDT McDonald's (MCD) had a juicy first quarter, but fat sales and profits aren't guaranteed this year as consumers begin to push back on higher prices for things like Big Macs and fries. "We are seeing in some places resistance to pricing, more resistance than we saw at the outset," McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski warned on the company's Tuesday earnings call. McDonald's said it's seeing "pressure" on its key units per transaction measure. That means the typical cost-conscious McDonald's customer is balking at higher menu prices. As a result, they may be buying a hamburger — but not getting a side of fries. Or those with a little more cash in their pockets could be buying more premium McDonald's dinner items — but leaving out a dessert. ... finance.yahoo.com/news/mcdonalds-customers-are-starting-to-balk-at-higher-big-mac-prices-134418597.html

The cost of eating out IS getting outrageous. I don't know how much more increase in prices the industry's clientele can or will support.

It's much cheaper to eat at home. Restaurants are insane with some of the prices they charge. Especially McD's. Their quality is bleh, which doesn't encourage me to want to spend there.

Exactly.
Back before they started going bananas with the prices it was always a "meh... but I don't feel like cooking" kind of thing... now it's just not worth it. Now it's becoming a "I guess I'll cook... it's not worth what they want for the junk that they serve".

I remember when fast food was a treat and not a daily meal for families. I know both parents work and I did too, but I still cooked for my family. It’s cheaper and healthier. I do understand at times it’s convenient and want a break too.

I only eat at McDonald's when my stomach is upset and nothing other than a Quarter-Pounder with cheese, extra ketchup, extra salt, will fix it. That is pretty rare these days. (Used to be the no-fail hangover cure back in the day, taught to me by a nurse.)
I was SHOCKED at the price of one of those the last time I had to go there, which was probably about six months ago. It had been over a year or so before that since I had gotten one, and it seemed to me that the price had doubled.

I don't think I've been to a McDonald's since Chicken McNuggets first came out. Was never really my thing. I remember when their big thing was feeding your family of four and getting change back from your $5 (or whatever it was). If I'm going to spend money eating out, I generally don't go for burgers, that are easy enough to make at home. I prefer to get something a little more "special" or something that I don't make at home.
