Came in to work tonight... and the drop safe had been broken into.
The person I was relieving told me that the "morning/day" person broke into it, broke into the owner's office, and took all the money that she could find (amount undetermined)... and the story that she gave him when he came in and saw the mess was that "the owner" (who turned out to NOT be the owner) supposedly called and told her to do it, and then, when she got off to take the money to a money store and transfer it to bitcoin.
I don't understand why people do things like this... at most she got about two paychecks worth of money... and she's risking jailtime of several years and a felony record.

Some people fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down. Yes, unfortunately.

I call what she did "quitting with EXTREME prejudice"...
And I agree that some people definitely do fall out of the stupid tree and hit ever branch on their way down.

The stupidest thing she did was to hang around until her relief showed up! If you're going to rob your employer (which is stupid enough), don't hang around. And how much money could there be in the safe? I'm assuming most people don't pay cash for their hotel rooms.

At most, she likely got about $1,000 (based on what I know about how many "cash" rooms we rented, and how often and when the boss empties the safe). Could be a little more or a little less, because he doesn't ANWAYS empty the safe on the same day... that's just a general average. But... either way, she took enough to make it Grand Theft (the stealing of more than $500... in this state), and a felony.
