Anyone have vacation plans this summer? Went to New York City with my daughter and now looking forward to a family beach trip to the outer banks and grandchildren ballgames. Looking forward to grilling outside again.

Just realized I made a post sort of similar last month 😊. Sometimes no plans are the best plans to have. One can be spontaneous and just go enjoy the local sites. I would just love to sit by a fire pit and enjoy the evening, but unfortunately every mosquito happens to think my husband is tasty so he only lasts five minutes.

Mosquitos are the bane of my existence. Hubby and son don't seem to get bothered by them but they sure love me. I think I'm allergic to their bites. The bites swell up huge on me. I've found that aloe vera gel soothes them for awhile.

Those therma-cell mosquito repellent devices they have at Lowes or Home Depot work really well. I use them as well as Cutter Dry repellent spray. I put BTI Bits in all the rain barrels and standing water. All of that combined keeps them pretty much controlled. And this is the best thing I learned a long time ago: Keep a little spray bottle of ammonia with you. Spray it on if you get bit and rub it in. Repeat every few minutes for about 15 minutes, and the bites won't welt up, or won't welt up as badly.

We tend to spend more time on the lake during the summer. We retired at our favorite vacation spot, so we usually don't take much more than a day trip anywhere.

Any areas of the body I should avoid? I tend to get bit the most on the back and sides of my neck and behind my knees. I don't want ammonia residue on my pillow lest it get into my eyes. Already annoyed at the gel my doctor prescribed for my rosacea that says keep out of and away from eyes. Um, hello? My eyes are on my face and so is the rosacea and it comes up very close to the bottom of my eyes. Grr.

Sapphire, I've been using ammonia on bites for probably 15 years, started right after I read it somewhere. Hasn't hurt me at all.
It works on a lot of bites, like mosquito and flea bites, but doesn't work on wasp stings or fire ant bites. (Learned from experience.)
I wouldn't put it on your face if you have rosacea. But you can put it anywhere else. Just remember to reapply every few minutes for about 15 minutes. Once generally won't do it.
P.S. If you know where you generally get bit, use extra repellent specifically on those areas. I like Cutter Dry.

Benadryl cream always helps me. I agree, Benadryl cream is GREAT for treatment, stops some of the itch and dries up the bites. Ammonia is more like a preventative of the welting and itching.

DH has been slowly working through his dental plan to get his teeth all fixed up. I told the dentist I'd be in once school got out for the summer so he could make a dental plan for me. I finally got around to it today. Pleasant surprise! My mouth wasn't that bad. I had 3 cavities, all of which got fixed today. I need a deep cleaning. And, I need a crown for a previously done root canal and that's it for the must be done stuff. On the optional stuff is an implant to fill the hole from a years old extraction. I'm not interested in spending money on an implant any time in the near future so that can wait.

I have been hoping to get the dock, boat lift and boat into the water for a month now. But one of our dogs Allie had to have ACL surgery 5 weeks ago and then emergency surgery 2 weeks ago when her stomach twisted. We have been so focused on her nothing has gotten done

Really well knock on wood. They tacked her stomach to her ribs so it can't happen again. She's still not her normal self eating wise but the vet said it will take a while for her stomach to get back to normal. But Friday she gets about 25 staples removed from her belly. This is her when we took her home

Regarding mosquito bites, Preparation H cream, or they have wipes, help a lot with the welts and the itching. I hate mosquitoes. They like me. I too like the dry Cutter's on my skin. I spray my clothes front and back before I put them on, then I spray exposed body parts.
