Texas becomes largest state to ban gender-affirming care for minorsBY JARED GANS - 06/02/23 10:15 PM ET Texas Gov. Greg Abbott speaks during a Memorial Day Ceremony in the House Chamber at the Texas Capitol in Austin, Texas, Saturday, May 27, 2023. (AP Photo/Eric Gay) Texas became the largest state to ban gender-affirming care for minors on Friday after Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed a bill into law. The law, which will take effect on Sept. 1, will prohibit health care providers from prescribing hormones or puberty blockers to minors or performing surgeries to help with their gender transition. It includes an exception for youth currently receiving hormones or puberty blockers and those that have attended 12 or more sessions of mental health counseling over a period of at least six months before they began treatment. But, it also requires that they be gradually taken off them “in a manner that is safe and medically appropriate.” Medical providers who are convicted of violating the law could have their license revoked. With Abbott’s signature, Texas joins 18 other states that have banned medication and surgical gender-affirming care for transgender minors, according to the Movement Advancement Project, which tracks state laws affecting the LGBTQ community. Arizona bans gender-affirming surgery but not medication like hormones. Capitol Police stopped a children’s choir from singing the national anthem. Why? Manchin thanks GOP for permitting reform in debt deal Republicans throughout the country have railed against the use of gender-affirming care for minors, especially in the past year, arguing that it could cause irreversible effects at an age when they are too young to decide. Medical associations have emphasized that the care is warranted for adults and children who are experiencing gender dysphoria. Advocates have also argued that the bans only harm transgender youth. The American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups pledged last month to file a lawsuit if Abbott signed the bill to block the ban from going into effect. link

I hate that they call it "gender affirming care"... and I'm glad that Texas has joined the other states that have banned it for minors.
On the first point: There's nothing "affirming" about any of the trans-assisting "care". What they are doing is denying physical and biological reality. Based on this "idea" of "treatment" we should probably start telling people that "Yes! the toaster IS telling you what to do!". That's what "affirming care" is... it's ignoring reality and assisting them to live as if their mental defect is reality instead of REALITY being reality.
On the second point: I wish it was mandated as federal law that "transitioning" would only be allowed for adults. Anything less than that is child abuse.

Yes I agree. You can't buy a drink in most states until you are 21. But they want to let 9 and 10 year olds decide what gender they want to be. It is child abuse plain and simple.

I blame both doctors and parents and yes it is child abuse. It’s unnatural and the body will eventually react negatively to tell treatments. No a male can never be a female, a female can never be a male. No matter how much they try and society tries dna says otherwise. They are using children as Guinea pigs.
